It is a wise man who uses all Wa-kon'-da has given him to gather all he can,
and take the time to think about all he has aquired,
and then speak his words.

Hello,
I was very surprised to see the Tribal Council voting practices laid out in this format. It was very eye-opening to say the least. I am also concerned about the amount of "Abstained" votes.
There are only two legitimate reasons for abstaining from voting on an issue presented for a full Council vote:
1) You do not agree with votes of the others but do not wish to rock the boat by voting against the majority.
2.) You do not have enough information to form a firm opinion, in which case the issue at stake is not truly ready for a final vote and more questions or reseach needs to be done before bringing this issue to the table.
I do not believe that "abstaining" from placing a vote should even be allowed, say your "yea" or "nea" and accept the responsibility that we voted you into office for.
Thank you for this site and for posting my concern.

Hello,
I am a little worried now that I have seen the stats. Some members of the present Tribal Council made a campaign issue out of the supposed existence of a "Secret" Council. My concern is the absence of Tribal Council meeting minutes and more importantly of the amount of missing resolutions that have been voted on that have not been made public. I had no idea there were so many. Is this just an oversight by those who send info to their webmaster or is this an intentional hiding of these minutes and resolutions? If these missing resolutions are being voted on while the Council is in Executive Session, is this not indicative of the dreaded "Secret Council" in practice?
Thanks for posting my concerns
Hello,
I was under the impression that "meeting minutes" meant an exact reading of what was said and of the business conducted at a meeting where "taking the minutes" was required. What I read on the OTC's website does not show this at all. The information found there leaves me just as in the dark about the issues facing the Osage Nation as I was before going there. I would really appreciate a more detailed account of Tribal business.
Thank you.
Hello,
What scares me is that if this apparenet voting trend, (and now we should begin to wonder how many others), continue, it will be just that much easier to prove incompetence as far as the tribal leadership is concerned when and if the US Government decides to fight our sovereignty and tribal status. I think this Council really needs to take a good look at the long term effects of each and every action they take as an elected member of the Osage Government. I know from my own experience that it is very hard to get answers or action from this council whether by email or by phone. The result of this is that they have gradually been losing my respect and trust as competent leaders for the tribe and reenforcing the statements I hear that they are acting in their own best interests and not the best interest of the Osage Nation as a whole. I can't help but become more worried for our future as a people.
