Osage Tribal Council Report Card
Concerns | General Concerns |
It is a wise man who uses all Wa-kon'-da has given him to gather all he can, and take the time to think about all he has aquired, and then speak his words.
Hello,
I am curious to know if the official website is ever really updated anymore. Didn't there used to be a website committee that was in charge of getting info on the website?
Hello,
Seems like we were told along time ago that the Osage Museum would be online soon where we could purchase items from them. Was this just forgotten about? I know several other people who have expressed an interest in buying from the Tribal Museum as well but the monthly featured item hasn't even been changed since the last council was in office. Is anything on their Museum page still current at all?
Thanks
Hello,
The 31st Council touted how they would not be a corrupt council (implying
that the 30th Council was), but if you take a look at their hiring
practices one would wonder if they ever heard the word nepotism. You will
find Red Eagles, Satepahoodles, Bighorses, Shaws, Whitehorns and Grays in
tribal or BIA positions. I am sure some of these people were working for
the tribe before the new council took office, but not all. The fact that
they have relatives on the council sure doesn't hurt. I don't mean to
single the above names out. Possibly other members of the council have
relatives working for the tribe too. These are the ones that I know about.
I just found this website and am extremely pleased. Approximately, 6 or
7 years ago, Jim and Liz Gray were desperately looking for a home. They
went to the Osage Housing Authority and got into a house in Skiatook,
Ok. Now that Jim Gray is the newest chief, how do you explain that his
secretary he hired happened to be Julia Lookout (relative to Liz
Ricketts Osage Housing Authority). I read the comment about the new
council having their families hired after the elections. At this point
I really am understanding the concept explained to me years ago by
someone who worked briefly for the Osages and the Housing Authority, you
don't have to know the job just kiss up to the people who can hire you.
As a college educated person and Osage I have enough common sense to
realize that unless you have a common name of Lookout, Redeagle, etc.,
you won't get a job. I also once heard that potential tribal council
members will promise you the stars, until they are elected and then they
become little demi-gods and they never knew you. How sad our once proud
heritage has become. Now when non-indians ask what tribe I'm from
believe me I do not tell them Osage. Why? Because I am ashamed to tell
someone I'm Osage and be told with my experience and education I could
make a difference for my tribe and I have to tell them I've applied
numerous times and cannot acquire employment with the Osage Tribe.
Hello,
Well, I think it's very interesting that you refuse to release you name,
stating that it's irrelevant. Funny, you'll know my name once I hit send.
Anyhow, you are quick to allow someone post last names and call it
nepotism. I think hiring councilpeople as Directors should be considered
nepotism, oh wait....I forgot, the individuals for our 31st Council are not
Federal Program employees. My Mistake! And YES, may of the employees with
the name Gray, Red Eagle, Whitehorn, etc... were employees from the
previous administration.
I think the the 31st Council is doing a great job. I think Chief Gray is
doing a great job.
Keep you postings current. I find them very amusing.
I would like to reply to the person that complained about the federal
director jobs held by some members of the 30th Council. First of all,
there were three members out of eight that held those positions. Two of
the three held the positions prior to the 1998 elections. The voters were
aware of that fact and still voted for them. One of those two had the
position taken away during the 30th Council term. More people have been
hired with connections to this new council in the first eight months than
the whole four years of the last council. I believe you "dost complain too
much."
